John Strong

Name: John Strong

Position: Senior Field Engineer - UK & International

Years with Rees: Almost 10 years

Fun Fact: I have 2 passions outside of work - my German Shepherd dogs and my campervan. I have recently purchased a new van and am currently working on getting it kitted out ready for some more adventures in 2026.

Something I’ve always wanted to learn or try: I’ve always wanted to throw myself out of an airplane, either for fun or for a good cause. I turn 50 in a little over a year, so maybe that will be the moment to finally do it.

Why did you join the Rees Team?

When I joined Rees, I was looking to get back into field service and wanted to give something back. This role brought me back to the kind of work I enjoy, and the industry we support gave me the chance to make a meaningful impact.

Describe any work experience or training you had prior to your employment at Rees and how it has helped your current role.

My background is primarily in IT and radio communications. I joined Rees right as the Z3 family was being released, and my first project was the first UK installation of Z3 Wireless. In my previous role, I worked extensively with Zigbee radio, so the product felt familiar from the start and helped me get up to speed quickly.

How has your role evolved since you joined Rees?

When I started, I was an engineer just beginning to learn the industry. Over time, I’ve taken on new responsibilities, including training new team members and helping customers implement or expand their systems. I also support sales by identifying opportunities and laying the groundwork, and I’ve become a go-to resource for the team for learning, guidance, and problem-solving.

Tell us about a favorite memory from working at Rees.

I don't have one specific favorite memory, but one of the things I enjoy most about working at Rees is the travel. For example, I had never imagined visiting South Korea. When the chance came up to do an install at a military base there, I took it immediately. It ended up being one of the most enjoyable and unique places I’ve ever visited, and it’s an experience I wouldn’t have had without Rees.

What are some of the Rees products or services that have received positive feedback from the customers you interact with? What did the customers have to say about those products or services?

Customers often tell me how much they value the reliability of the Rees system and the confidence it gives them in their day-to-day operations. They appreciate how dependable the hardware is and how consistently it performs. With the updated interface now rolling out, many are excited about the improvements and have shared how much they’re looking forward to using the new design.

How do you envision the future of Rees in terms of growth, innovation and impact?

Rees has always been a major player to my mind. I think the future will be a continuation of the path we're currently on - new products, new services which will in turn put our name at the forefront, opening many more opportunities for growth.
