"Going from the original setup to the new fixture was just incredible. I don’t have to worry about all the different modules or power supplies. It’s all in one case."

"In my opinion there’s nothing better on the market. And you’ll never find better tech support."

Canyon Labs’ Background

Canyon Labs is a medical device and analytical testing organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah. They run packaging, microbiology, and chemistry labs where temperature and humidity directly affect testing accuracy. Operating under ISO 17025 accreditation, they needed reliable, continuous monitoring and documentation across lab spaces and controlled equipment, plus cleanroom pressure testing to support the required airflow and contamination control. When Richard Floyd joined the team, monitoring data was difficult to access and report on in their existing platform. Equipment mapping was largely outsourced, creating a gap in day-to-day control and internal capability.

How Rees Solved the Problem

Rees implemented an environmental monitoring system (EMS) that continuously tracked temperature and humidity across labs, incubators, ovens, refrigerators, and freezers. The system also measured cleanroom differential pressure and provided cloud-based real-time data access and alarm notifications.

Rees engineers also worked with Canyon Labs to develop a custom chamber-mapping kit that consolidated mapping hardware into a single integrated system, making internal mapping easier to deploy across their wide range of equipment, including ultra-low freezers, refrigerators, incubators, walk-in chambers, and more.

Canyon Labs Saw Immediate Results

Canyon Labs gained visibility into critical lab environments right away, with staff verifying chamber conditions and keeping them within required parameters. The simplicity of the system allows new staff to learn the basics within minutes. The Rees system reduced operational complexity, supported qualification work (including an autoclave for producing media internally), and helped reduce operational costs previously tied to outsourcing.

With stronger monitoring infrastructure and ongoing technical support, Canyon Labs is positioned to expand the monitoring network as new equipment comes online.

Key Takeaways

  • ISO 17025-ready Monitoring: Canyon Labs needed reliable, continuous monitoring and documentation, as temperature and humidity directly affect testing accuracy.
  • Simple System Onboarding: The Rees system allowed for fast data access and audit-ready reporting. This was a big upgrade from their previous platform.
  • Cleanroom Differential Pressure Monitoring: Real-time pressure monitoring helps maintain positive pressure, supports proper airflow, and reduces contamination risk in controlled environments.
  • In-house Mapping: Rees engineers helped develop a single integrated mapping enclosure that lets Canyon Labs run internal mapping studies across all its facilities.
